Festival of Light, Berlin
Saturday night found us out on the town. Brandenberg Gate put on a great turn but then the heavens opened...donner & blitzen!
Boots full or water couldn't dampen our spirits.
Thanks to the www for this next image, stumbled upon while looking up our local family national costume.
Esslingen/Wurttemberg/Black Forest tracht is far more modest that the bossom-brandishing costume of the Bavarian neighbours.
Isn't she lovely and adorning her head is a bollenhut, made from enormous red pom-poms.
Of course, once married, one's pom-poms change to black; is the fun then over gals?
And more on Esslingen, Pete's father's home town;
the locals love red geraniums and putting on a show.
The red Rathaus in the Alte Stadt of Esslingen.
Anish Kapoor's wax bell
and canon, Martin Gropius Bau, Berlin.
Every pharmacist has this Apoteke sign,
and for further consistancy and little bit of the GDR shared with the entire country:
the Amplemann traffic light symbol.
